Accounting through challenging times ...

OVERVIEW OF COVID-19 LEGLISLATION

March 23, 2020

Dear Valued Clients:

Thank you for putting your trust in my office to provide your tax and accounting services. We as a nation are faced with another challenge, none like any of us has ever seen before.

As of today, my office is considered an Essential Service as declared by our Governor. Therefore my office will continue to remain open to provide you with the services you rely on. I will remain open unless I am ordered to close by our government. In any event I have the capabilities of working remotely and will be able to service you and communicate with you by telephone, cell phone, email and Skype.

To help do our part in following the Governor’s orders, as well as to protect you, our clients and my office staff, I respectfully ask that you strongly consider telephonic or electronic communications. I will be rescheduling all of our meetings to be handled in this manner.

At this time I am recommending you drop off your documents either at the front desk or through our mail slot. To reduce the amount of traffic at the office, I ask that you call in advance to make arrangements for either a drop off or a pick up so we may comply with the so important practice of social distancing. In addition, you can also make use of our office portal to transmit and receive documents from us. If you would like to use this feature please contact our office at (559) 582-4991 and ask for Therese. This is a secure portal which is only accessible by use of a password.

My top priority is your safety and the safety of my employees. I have instituted several procedures to make sure our environment is as safe as possible. We are conducting good hygiene and following the practices as recommended by the CDC and other public health guidance.

As a precaution, if you have a sore throat, a dry cough, a fever or any other signs of COVID-19,  I kindly ask you to refrain from entering my office. I realize this may be an inconvenience, but it is important for the safety of my staff and for the safety of anyone they may come in contact with.

As of now, both the Internal Revenue Service and Franchise Tax Board have postponed the filing deadline to July 15, 2020. This postponement covers not only the filing and payment of taxes due with your tax returns, but it also postpones any estimated tax payments that are due on April 15 or June 15.

I am updated daily by my professional societies: The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. I will update you telephonically or through my website at martincgarciacpa.com.  Additional information can be obtained at calcpa.org, aicpa.org, irs.gov and ftb.ca.gov.

God Bless You and God Bless America!

Sincerely,

Martin C. Garcia

“A local man was audited by the IRS and he didn’t have the right representation. When he left the audit, he owed over $40,000 in penalties, interest, and taxes. He came to us, after the fact. He felt he got the short end of the stick. After reviewing his file, we agreed. We reopened the audit, and it ended with the IRS owing him over $28,000.”

— Martin Garcia
