“I realized that accounting would be a challenging, interesting career, and, one that significantly helps people.”
The best advice Kevin Hernandez ever received was from his father: “Spend the extra time to do it right the first time.” And his father repeated it often. That advice has stood Kevin well from his very first job to his current position as Manager at Martin C. Garcia Accountancy.
Born and raised in Hanford, Kevin’s first job was, in the middle of summer, at Penny Newman Grain Company. Each day consisted of throwing bags of 4 Way on pallets and driving the loader to fill up trucks with rolled corn. Being the new guy, the crew gave him all the hardest jobs that no one else wanted to do. But Kevin never complained once. He says, “I learned that hard work is the quickest way to earn the respect of your peers and superiors.”
While in college at UC Santa Barbara, Kevin caught his love for accounting. He entered college with an undeclared major, but with a strong interest in math and economics. The professor in his first accounting class had an unrivaled passion for the subject. Each day, Kevin left class with a new and interesting story about his professor’s work with clients. He recalls, “I realized that accounting would be a challenging, interesting career, and one that significantly helps people.”
As manager, Kevin supervises all our office projects including tax preparation, tax planning, audits, estate planning, payroll services, bookkeeping, and more. He works to ensure they are completed to our high standards and in a timely manner. Kevin also oversees day-to-day office procedures. “An efficient and well-run office combined with a friendly environment helps our employees enjoy coming to work every day,” he says.
When doing actual accounting work, Kevin specializes in financial statements and tax preparation for farming entities including dairies, trees, and row crops. He brings many years of experience preparing complex tax returns. He also has a background in audit compliance.
Kevin enjoys working in our professional and friendly office environment. He also values that each member of the staff pushes himself or herself to provide the best service possible.
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife and their extended family. He also enjoys his Jeep, hunting, and fishing.
